Temperament and Other Characteristics

The Ibizan Hound is even-tempered, affectionate and loyal. Extremely versatile and trainable, he makes an excellent family pet.  These are neat dogs who clean themselves much like cats.  While alert and watchful of strangers, they are friendly and outgoing dogs.  They are protective of their homes but should never be aggressive or timid.  They are a proud breed and demonstrate it with their alert expression and eye catching gait.

They are playful and sometimes silly, but never as demanding as some other breeds.  They appreciate both playtime and snuggling time and are easily amused with something to chew!

The normal lifespan of an Ibizan is eleven to fourteen years.  Properly cared for, these sweet and sensitive dogs will give endless joy to their families.

As adults, they are relaxed and can become couch potatoes who know how to squeeze into a small space and share it.

Food

Opinions differ what is the perfect food for your Ibizian.  Some owners prefer a quality kibble.  Others favor a raw diet.  But be warned.  Beezers are known counter surfers. No food left unattended is safe.  They will take your food as soon as you’re not watching.

Exercise and Fences

Ibizan Hounds require a great deal of exercise but should only be allowed off leash in a fenced in area.  They are very agile dogs, able to jump great heights from a standstill.  It is recommended that owners have fences that are at least 6-feet in height.
